This year marks the 40th anniv. of the passing of two KEY early Feld-Ringling players, including Israel "Izzy" Feld, brother and life-long business partner of Irvin. Israel was the money guy, Irvin the promoter. Both died young, Israel at 61, barely five years after buying the circus.Seen here (top right) adjacent to Lady Bird wearing glasses and standing behind the candy butcher (Bobby Hynds?), the rarely photographed and lesser known Israel is accompanied by his wife Shirley (who died just five years ago). Coincidentally, the Feld's longtime business ally, Wolcott "Cotton" Fenner, the prime promotion executive behind early Feld shows and successes including the circus and the creation of its legendary marketing machine, also died suddenly in 1972, also like Israel, at age 61 (seems so young today!), to be replaced by Allen Bloom.

1974 Load Out In Venice #1

The day finally arrived and to say I was apprehensive would putting it mildly.
These elephants had been in quarters for over two years and everyone was concerned.
In fact things were so uncertain that Piccolo decided to accompany us in an advisory capacity.

They came up with two retired elephant cars to move us up to the park.

One might ask why the Capt. isn't doing this? The simple reason that there would be nothing more embarrassing than to look out the door and find that the rest of the herd had departed and gone back home.

One of the unidentified cannons the other day is that of Fred "Fearless" Gregg. Here is a pic from the Nov/Dec 1976 Bandwagon on the same cannon.

Buckles;
On the subject of Cannons, I thought you might like to see these. I shot them on the Dobritch International Circus, LA Sports Arena,1968. Dueling cannons and clown on cannons.

This is a publicity shot taken in the fall of 72 at Clown College.

Can you id the elephant? I am guessing it might be John but that is just a wild guess.
It might be an elephant birthday party. The photo is on the Clown College facebook page with no additional information.

From Buckles
It's not "John", no ivory and the absence of paraphernalia indicate both shows were still on the road.
The ill fitting blanket and the handler trying unsuccessfully to get out of the picture suggest it might have been a local elephant brought in for the occasion.
In short.....I don't have a clue.
