Welcome to Buckles Blog. This site is for the discussion of Circus History all over the world.
During some of the time I was serving our country in the US of A Coast Guard defending Baltimore harbor from all threats while on a decommissioned Navy ship I had nearly completed my Stagehands apprenticeship in NY so that "BA" asked the Baltimore "BA" to offer me any odd work during my many off days or hours A number of nights I was the frontlight (spotlight) operator at the "Gayety" theater on East Baltimore Street known as "The Block" Blaze Starr had purchased the joint & produced many versions of "Burlesque" including variey acts & worn out comedians along with a rotating assemblage of assorted pulcheratude It was the last holdout joint on "The Block" that was all union represented The girls the musicians & best of all stagehands 2 night work provided me the financial gain that doubled my service pay
The antique hand fed DC carbon arc light was no fun to operate but the distractions made up for it
Don't tell me--from the looks of it--this venue is now a convenience store??
I haven't been there in many years No idea when this photo was taken The signage suggests a porn shop
According to Google Maps/Images, it is now a Larry Flynt joint.https://www.google.com/maps/place/405+E+Baltimore+St,+Baltimore,+MD+21202/@39.2897734,-76.6099905,3a,75y,168.41h,109.1t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sKLsRSsNxXzvWrSl9TvUbUQ!2e0!6s%2F%2Fgeo3.ggpht.com%2Fmaps%2Fphotothumb%2Ffd%2Fv1%3Fbpb%3DChAKDnNlYXJjaC5UQUNUSUxFEmYKOAkzhk-snQTIiREiyd8HusxhYxokCxDThbhCGhsSGQoUChIJM4ZPrJ0EyIkRPQ_Tf1_kw4YQlQMMEgoNcCNrFxVHPlbSGhIJByhPuHsEyIkRdckPxJFpb4MqCg2VGWsXFeI-VtIaBQhqEIgD%26gl%3DUS!7i13312!8i6656!4m5!3m4!1s0x89c8049dac4f8633:0x6361ccba07dfc922!8m2!3d39.2894869!4d-76.6099742
Well that's a new alltime low Very sorry to hear that Guess I was right about a porn shop
DVD booths. Larry Flynt is right at home.
