Jess Adkins favored special-made shoes that saw him nicknamed The Man With the Turned-up Toes. He teamed with Zack Terrell, and over the winter of 1934-35, they steadily gathered equipment to form a new show. Most of this came from the dormant Christy title, down in South Houston. Of all the most improbable things, launching a new circus in the depth of the Depression, they got their enabling loan from bankers on one exclusive factor--they had the name Clyde Beatty in ink on a contract. Known as The Miracle Show, Cole Bros. Circus with Clyde Beatty and Alan King, opened to great success for the 1935 season.
