Zack Terrell. In the stated opinion of Mabel Stark, he "made" Clyde Beatty. Some of us feel Beatty was well along with his international fame before his Cole show debut, in '35. There had been the sensation of his near-death "jungle fever" episode after his attack by Nero lion, in '32. This led to his first book, THE BIG CAGE, quickly filmed under the same title, at Universal Studios, in '33. Next, he starred in Republic's first serial, THE LOST JUNGLE, in '34--which was also fielded as a feature. So Beatty's fame was assured before he signed on with Zack Terrell, but one hardly mentioned such things when advised of history according to Mabel Stark.
