When the Feld's bought the Ringling Show all they knew about a circus was that if handled right it could make money and right away started looking for the most famous Historian in the country.
I recall Chappie's quote, "From now on, rather than write about Circus History, I will be making it!

I took this shot in Venice in October of 1985 when Chappie came to visit Clown College. He signed my notebook which I still have (along with a lot of other treasured signatures from Lou Jacobs, Mark Anthony, Charly Baumann and Bill Ballantine among others). Best line of the night: "If I owned Florida and Hell I lease Florida and live in Hell."
