Chappie #10

Ball Room upstairs at Madison Sq. Garden for RBBB 100th Edition.
Marilyn Parkinson, C.P Fox, Jack Ryan, Ken Young, Sophie Fox and Bob Parkinson.
My wife and I attended a similar event at the Garden in 1978 with all the Felds attending, my wife seated next to Walter Cronkite, pretty heady stuff.

I had the pleasure of meeting Walter Cronkite and his wife a couple of times, first on the Big Apple. I took photos and sent them to him. He sent me back a personal thank you note. A terrific down to earth gentleman. On one occasion while chatting with him and Mrs C. they asked if I knew the name of a tent show that played Martha's Vineyard. I said it was most likely Vidbel's Olde Tyme Circus. I could see instant recognition on their faces and they both proceeded to tell me how much they enjoyed seeing that show.

Cronkite was a hell of a news reporter. My uncle was with the 101st and Cronkite flew in with them in the Operation Market Garden mess and later was with the 101st again covering the battle of the Bulge.

Cronkite was known news industry wide as 100% genuine. He faced combat throughout entire war campaigns side by side with our forces, unlike the present-day media types who attempt to steal valor. Cronkite later said he retired too early, and lived to share CBS's enduring embarrassment of Dan Rather.
