The man seated on the right (atop Jumbo) with high silk hat is Abraham Dee Bartlett, legendary Supt. of the London Zoo and for whom the zoo history group, the Bartlett Society, is named. Standing with his hand on Jumbo's trunk is Matthew Scott, his keeper and the only person whom Jumbo would trust. Standing on the other side is William "Elephant Bill" Newman from the Barnum Circus. [This is a dandy book by my London friend John Edwards. It has some of the very first photos ever taken of various animals. I'd urge all zoo and circus fans to obtain a copy.]
