More odds & ends #5

This group portrait shows the cast and crew for the Mascot serial THE LOST JUNGLE. Comedian Syd Saylor (front row, wearing bow tie) is seated next to Cecelia Parker (later famous as Mickey Rooney’s sister in the “Andy Hardy” films.) Seated beside Miss Parker is the serial’s star Clyde Beatty. The assorted cages hold some of Beatty’s Hagenbeck-Wallace cats.

Mascot Pictures was a poverty row film company and it sure would have been great if Clyde Beatty early in his career did not get with an A studio like Warner Bros etc.
Anthony Quinn in an interview with TCM said there was a studio we were not supposed to work for Allied Artists.
Which was Macot, Lone star, Republic and etc as to attract movie stars they changed there name to Allied Arts to get stars to work for them.
Even Frank Cappra the famous film director called Columbia studio a poverty row studio.
An A movie house would not run poverty row films locally.
