For many years, live music for The Horse of the Year Show was performed by the Band of the Royal Corps of Transport, one of Britain’s top military bands. (This would have been like having the U.S. Marine Band play for a Ringling performance.) It was said that one could follow what was going on in the arena just by listening to the band. Pre-recorded music is now been used.

During the 40+ years that the Band of the Royal Corps of Transport played for The Horse of the Year Show, the band’s leaders and musicians provided many special musical arrangements and original compositions just for this engagement. While some of this music was replaced over time to accommodate changes in musical tastes, other numbers became so traditional that they had to be played year after year by popular demand. In 1993 the Royal Corps of Transport was combined with four other British Army corps to form The Royal Logistic Corps. The Band of the Royal Corps of Transport is now known as the Band of the Royal Logistic Corps.
