There were actually two Dianas. The first one, which was fabricated in 1891, was 18’ tall and weighed 1,800 pounds. Because of its immense weight, the figure did not rotate as planned. It was also disproportionately too large for the building, and in 1892 it was removed and sent to Chicago to be exhibited at the 1893 Columbian Exposition. After the exposition closed, it was partially destroyed by fire is now lost. |
