Welcome to Buckles Blog. This site is for the discussion of Circus History all over the world.
Is that a picket line at the box office?
Yes, that's a picket line and the sign says, "ON STRIKE" I remember opening the Nassau Coliseum in '72 (?), the was 40 YEARS AGO!!! ~frank
Yes those few fellows are clearly carrying strike signs but I can't read the organization involved This by the way was the 3rd Garden (& the favorite of some of us)
Some of us may remember the AF of M pickets during the late 70s when a charter was obtained for a rival musicians union & who remembers "Caspet Music" & the added security
When the Nassau Coliseum was about to open the permanent sound system was far from completion & there was no penalty provision included in the contract (I think it was the DuKane Company) so the powers that were politically in charge came to me to provide a temporary system to allow them to get open on time That custom system designed by the respected engineer John Karlson was in use there for about 10 weeks It became my seasonal installation in the Venice Arena for many years I have all of the components yet (I don't recall any pickets Frank)
The picket ref was for the MSG, not Nassau.
