Roy Jennier is shown here with a “Hari” (short for “harimau” meaning “tiger”), which was purchased from a native as a half-starved cub and then nursed back to health at the expedition’s base camp in Sumatra. By the time this photo was published, Hari was already on display in the National Zoo.

According to the article, Roy Jannier and his associate from the Washington Zoo Malcolm Davis trapped a large tiger just five miles from the base camp. On another occasion Jannier and Davis captured a four foot monitor lizard that just happened to wander into the camp.
