Is Charlie Bell assisting with the descent of Holly, whose pretty feet we see?
If Holly was hot at being hauled down from planges on a pull-up rope, she could also have been steamed when DeMille allowed vendors to work the seats during her act. I count four of them hyping their wares.
Roger,
As I remember, Clyde was the only performer for whom the announcement was made for the vendors had to retire from the stands. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Hubert Castle jumped a buthcher with fists when Castle was reading his back thru the hoop. Butcher later came in backyard and punched out Castle.
Dave Hoover took that over from Beatty days, but was not too effective. Other acts have used it as well including Tarzan Zerbinitanglefoot
Old jackpots have Leitzel so favored, as were other stellar acts who could demand solo spots. Other special announcements might have meant more to the audience than retiring the vendors, such as, "Absolute silence, please!", or, "Watch him!"
On the Castle show, Doc Barbre's agents asked me if they could work when I was on. I told them, "If I'm working, you're working." One night, I had two town kids helping me load out, and a tiger cage almost overran us sliding back down the runs. All of a sudden, the cage was on its way up and into the truck. Carl Nordine and Angelo, two of the concession men, had appeared to apply needed muscle. If I'd played the grande artiste with them, they would have walked away. Retire the vendors, my ass.
Thanks, Johnny, I wasn't sure about other performers having enough clout to demand no selling during their act.
