RBBB in Japan 1988 #1

Japan trip (shipboard shot), originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

This appears to have been taken on board ship during the trip over to Japan. There is no indication as to the date or how long the voyage took.

It takes 17 deathly ill days from Ft. Lewis, Washington to Yokohama, Japan.

Buckles,
The same route 17hrs in a cargo plane is shorter, but no less deathly. Refreshment service was a cup of lukewarm coffee from the Navigators thermos.

Just talked with Scott who said the trip from Oakland to Tokyo took 13 days.
He added that going over, the cargo was dispersed among three ships on the theory that if one sank, all would not be lost.
However on the return voyage, everything was crammed aboard one ship since it was cheaper and if it was lost, the dates had already been played.

When we came over to join Ringling it took 13 days as well from Bremerhaven to New York. The Captain tried to avoid a big storm and sailed sort of around it that made the trip 2 days longer. Everybody got sick except Peter Kohnen and me, mainly because we spent most of the time on deck dumping the poo in to the Ocean.
The Elephants, Horses and Tigers where in the mid deck together with about 20 Formula one Race Cars and all the poo had to be filled in to Oil drums and be elevated to the deck and Peter and me where tied to the safety rail and picked up the drums and dumped them. 17 Elephants, about 20 Horses and 7 Tigers. Lots of sh t, took about 4 hours in the morning and 4 in the after noon.I think there was only 9 of us because the did`n have enough cabins to carry more. The rest came over in a Cruise Ship with Movies and Casino.......

Scott said that a gang plank had been built so the manure could be wheeled out and dumped overboard.
But for some reason it was placed on the windward side of the ship and for thirteen days it blew back into the face of the wheeler and everything on deck as well as the side of the ship down to the water line.
He said Smokey and Bobby were flown to Japan with the staff people.

Henry,
WOW!!!!! The navigators lukewarm coffee I had to drink wasn't such a bad deal. I guess my father was right when he told me, "don't complain that you have no shoes. Some people don't have feet."

On the return trip (believe it was a Korean crew)the galley was stocked with steaks so we would not be subject to 13 days of korean cuisine. But it seemed that the cook saw it as good fortune for his buddies.
Have you ever seen fish eyeballs in your soup ?

To answer your question about fish eyeball soup, yes I have seen that but I can top this with Chicken Embryo soup, witch the Promoter in Taiwan proudly offered as a special delicacy when he invited us to "the best Restaurant in Taiwan". There was one more soup with a smell not even topped by Tiger sh t and after I declined that one as well I was not in the circle of friends anymore.
