Looks like a scale model, and beautiful

I just checked the original negative of that photo to see if maybe it was printed backwards, it was not.

This was the opening , not the main spec before intermission. Aparently the opening went clockwise, and the spec went counter clockwise.

On closer inspection, I noticed that the logo on the coveralls wasn't backwards.
Whoever led the elephant was unable to see if the cage was clearing was clearing the corners.

the lion's was Clarence

WHEN JUST SEEING THIS YEARS SHOW I thought something wasn' quite right when in I believe the first appearance of the elephant hed that they went the wrong way around the arena floor. Kind of like race horses in England and Japan if memory serves me.

Previously when I commented about the Hagenbeck wagoncage I mentioned Ringlings wanted me to train a wagon act for the opening parade. This is how it ended up. Just one lion and the trainer. Originally the wagon was going to be pulled into the centre ring and a lion and two lionesses would do the old bouncing lion routine, lasting two minutes. The problem was the wagon had to be 16ft x 6.6ft x 6.6ft, which for some reason they wouldn't do. I reduced it to 2 lionesses, but they still didn't want it. I am sure people would have talked about it to this day. As you entered the cage through the small door in the right hand corner, the first lioness would bounce up the side, hit the door and close it behind you. They then bounced up the side of the cage, over the roof and on the floor. First one behind each other and then in alternate directions. They eventually finished doing a pyramid on the bars of the cage and as the trainer jumped out through the small door, the door was left open on purpose and one lioness stood and roared at the open door before it was closed. The animals were of the highest quality and as long as stood in the right place, you were completely safe.

It is a real shame this act never made it to the show. A loss for all big cat fans.
