There was a mini cat trainers convention at Fri. nights Ringling show in Orlando. I spotted Larry Allen Dean, John Campolongo, Luis & Marcia Palacio, Lance Ramos, and Taba.

Also, when I left the building, I noticed the animal right's activists latest gimmick. They dress up as clowns to "meet and greet" the crowds as they exit the building, then pass out their leaflets, and now a dvd. Their rendition of clowns makes the poorest of Shrine clowns look good.
So, I walk by them, pretending to think that they were actually with the circus, complimented them on "their performance" in the circus, and asked them for their autograph (I found one of the K&N $8. circus coloring books in the seats as I left). ......Well, talk about a cold, pissed off dumbfounded look!

I'm just waiting for some little screaming tike who hated the clowns to kick one of the clown/activists in the shins!

Want to see an interesting web site, check out www.beattycircus.com

That new Clyde Beatty Circus is scheduled to open in Albany Ga. on Jan 19. As of two weeks ago, they had the Johnson's tiger act booked, to be presented by Tammy Wallenda, Rosaire's bear act, and the Cardin Elephants with Bret & Cathy. I also heard that they are renting Serge Corona's equiptment. This should be interesting to see how this new show does.

I turn green with envy when I see this picture. This is the act I've always dreamed of having, a cage full of lions. Beautiful, spectacular; a freelancer's fantasy act. It's all about opportunity sometimes. Even in middle age, I'll never outgrow dreaming of lions.

Bless you, Mr. Lee, I hope I have the chance someday too. Karma's a funny thing. If it's meant to be, it will happen... !

I agree completely that Larry fit the role perfectly. The two lions in John Campolongo's picture: what were their names, and where are they in this photo with Larry's pyramid? John? Larry? Jim?

Rebecca; Susan.... ? I know five Susans. Which ever one, greetings in return!

Question Larry? Are the cats on the backside on seats above the tunnel or are they apart of the pyramid? Jewell opened his act with this almost same setup.

the pyramid on the back wall was to show off the punks,1 male & 4 females.they were a group Jim put in to build up the act for Ringling,
they were not in the pyramid that later became the jump pedastals.the animal entrance was on the side to accomodate the act facing front .Later, on Knie, the tunnel came in under that rear wall pyramid. And at Carre',in Holland, the lions came in from the corner to the right of the rear wall pyramid.
The young lions that sat on the back wall were in the laydown and did a fire-hurdle finish as a group.
Not to the topic, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Jim Club gathered and trained this lion group of the best quality animals that I have ever had the opportunity to work. And I believe John Campalong would agree.(John worked them after I did) And Luis Palacio was also quite enamored of this group.(Luis worked this group that originally interested the Ringling people)
After working on Ringling(incuding the first Gold Unit tour of Japan)
this lion group took me on a tour of some of Europe's finest circuses

To L.A.Dean:
I wasn't able to find in my collection a picture of you act as was staged at Roncalli in 1993. It looked great there. If you have some images, thanks if you have the time to post some on the blog...

Thanks for the comments, Larry. They were a good bunch of lions. Originally the act consisted of 2 males and 4 lionesses, which I presented at the Hippodrome Circus, Great Yarmouth. I changed it to 6 males for the following year, so it could go back to the Hippodrome and it was then presented by Luis Palacio. The following year I added 2 more males and sent it to Blackpool Tower Circus, where Luis had the accident with the lion, Blanco, who I never trained initially. In fact, the only big cat I have never trained and put in an act. Apart from this incident, there were no problems with group throughout its career with any of the trainers. I took the act back over for 12 weeks after the accident until Emile Smith finished at Great Yarmouth with the panther act. He then came and took the act back over from me. During the Blackpool season Kenneth Feld visited and booked the act, but asked if I could enlarge the group to 12 or more animals. I did this the following year, making a total of 14: 7 males and 7 females. Larry Dean took it over and presented it at Ringlings and also part of the season with Roncali. It was then taken over by John Campolongo and then Emile Smith presented it once again in its final two years. By then the act was 5 males and 3 females. They were retired to Stockley/Boswell's The Natal Lion Park in South Africa. Some of them were 22 years old and sired cubs upon arrival.

Rebecca- sure I remember Giovanni! Ringmaster, Cirque Gatini. Isn't Buckles site amazing? I can't believe all the connections. How did we get along without 'B-Blog' for so many years?
