The lion John is sitting on was called Leo. He came from Alex Kerr's zoo in Cromer, UK, where he was born. He was a really fantastic animal. The lion jumping through the hoop was Nero. He was trained to work in the wagon cage as well and was a really good "fighting" lion. Incidentally Nero lived to 23 years old and Leo 21 years old. Leo went to South Africa after his retirement from the ring along with some of the other lions in the act and fathered cubs at the Natal Lion Park, owned by Jimmy Stockley and Brian Boswell.
