Bette Hutton, in her old age ended up being a friend of a punk-rocker. I can't remember the rocker's name, but did read her memoir. She mentioned knowing Hutton and not believing she had been a movie star for quite a while. Sic transit gloria mundi.

Cornel Wilde was an intellect who completed a 4-year pre-med course at City College of New York, in 3 years. He was on his way to his MD degree, but followed his heart to the theatre. He spoke 6 languages, and became an acclaimed director.

Betty Hutton suffered career problems, some said due to her temperament. She was found on the streets of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, homeless and drug-addicted, by Father Peter Maguire. He took her into his parish, and she worked as a cook at the rectory. For a time, he was the only one who knew she had been a film star. During rehab, she earned a Master's degree in psychology, and tutored theatre classes. The music star she befriended in this era was Kristen Hersch. Betty's career was never revived, and she died at age 86 of cancer, in Palm Springs. It was reported that her daughters did not attend her burial.
