The Chicago Coliseums were three large arenas which stood from the 1860s to 1982 They hosted horse shows boxing matches and circus acts beginning in 1866 They also served as venues for sports events conventions and as exhibition halls The first Coliseum stood at State and Washington streets downtown The second, at 63rd Street near Stony Island Avenue in the Woodlawn community The third Chicago Coliseum was at 15th Street and Wabash Avenue on the South side It closed in 1971 and was demolished in 1982
