By the late 1960’s the International Amphitheatre’s fortunes had started to fade. After the McCormick Place convention center opened in the 1960s, its bookings began to drop. Expensive to maintain and unable to attract the large events needed to pay for its upkeep, the International Amphitheatre was demolished in 1999 to make way for an industrial park built on the site of the old Union Stock Yard. Sic transit Gloria!
