Welcome to Buckles Blog. This site is for the discussion of Circus History all over the world.
Edmundo "Papa" Zacchini was one of the nicest guys in the world & an excellent Italian cook This was the cannon I did some electrical repair work on in San Juan Puerto Rico during a Jimmy Harrington date titled "Gran Circo Panamericano"
Walter & Ruth Patterson flew out of Pappa's cannon for years Ruth was Pappa's niece
One of the Patterson's two daughters Laura "Dinky" was tragically killed in a rehearsal for the halftime show of the 97 Superball game in New Orleans The game went on but the show cancelled
I was brought down by the NFL legal team to review the rigging
Not all memories were of good times
I remember hearing of Ms. Patterson's tragic death, but was never clear on the details.
I'll give you a call Roger Not for inclusion here It was truly awfull & totally avoidable
Those cheap NFL attorneys paid me a pittance after telling me how important it was for me to come down They traced me to a club at Newark Airport through the FBI (really) & changed my original destination to New Orleans with all the transfers & hotel arranged They offered me Superball seats which I declined as I had an important project that needed my attention I'm also no football fan
Although his cab was a little cramped I thought the slope of the truck body was classic Much better lines than most of the other family cannnons
Was it Hugo who had a photographer's dark room in the truck under the cannon? He used to critique my photographs when I was in college
It was Papa but maybe Hugo also Edmundo "Papa" had a brother as well as one of his sons both named Hugo (made it confusing) his other son was Eddie He also had two daughters
