In '64, Big Otto's keeper was a guy known as Captain George, who reveled in giving lectures on the operation of the Beatty show to any townie who would stand and listen.
There is a tale of Big Otto taking a stroll down the midway when someone failed to close her pen. However, she was quickly wooed back "home" with a few loaves of bread! :-) Cindy Potter
Did Captain George dress up in the khakis and jungle helmet in the late 50s early 60's? I believe Otto came up top when they drained the tub and put in fresh water.

This little lady was billed
as "Big Otto" as shown in #2
And a lovely thing she is
A couple of the men that
attended to her said she
was very agreeable
Tony Greiner sent a photo
of the Hippo he attended
but the image was really
rough as he had mentioned
Thank you Tony
