Well, it's there, and it isn't. It made a big hit at first, the 8th Wonder of The World, and that. But it became a staggering boondoggle like few others. It was realized almost from the beginning that the building was way too big for any event brought in. Be it football, baseball, the Ringling show, Sinatra, Elvis, Streisand, or the Houston Fat Stock Show and Rodeo--none of them needed that kind of space, and no production ever scored a sell-out. I got curious and found from USA TODAY that as of April, the thing has been vacant for 19 years, and had all activities of any kind cancelled since 2009. The article claims $150++ million is being gathered for someone's dream of a resurrection, proving my fellow Texans are still masters of throwing good money after bad.
