John Ringling put Clyde Beatty's name on that sign. Beatty was brought over from Mr. John's Hagenbeck-Wallace to play NYC with his Big Act of 40+ cats. Beatty worked the date in 1931, '32, '33, & '34. He continued with RB to the Boston Garden for the first three of those years, but not in '34, when scheduling for H-W needed him to return there. As some know, Mr. John lost the show in '32, and Sam Gumpertz came in from Coney Island. At once, he was a bad fit with the performers, and had immediate conflicts with Beatty over rehearsal time. Beatty quit Ringling interests at the close of '34, and went with Jess Adkins and Zack Terrell on their Miracle Show, the Cole Bros. and Clyde Beatty Circus, in 1935.
