The cage is the last Beatty arena, built new in DeLand in 1960. When Beatty died, the act was bought by Dave Hoover. The last 7 of the cats came to us at Jungleland. The arena stayed with Hoover, and was eventually bought by Hubert Castle, who decided he knew better about arenas that Beatty. He dismantled it and re-worked each section, but he did not change the man-door. I worked in this cage for the seasons 1972 and 1973, and felt the presence of Mr. Beatty each time I went through the door you see here. Harry from Texas can verify for us, I believe, that this arena, after going to Zerbini, was last seen stacked outside, exposed to the elements of Florida, in a compound owned by the Felds.
