This was actually taken in or near Colton, California where Smokey owned an A-frame. Val brought this little African down from the Oakland Zoo for Smokey to break. (Val had named the little elephant Smokey.) They worked at a facility that had once been some sort of exotic bird park. (I think it was closed by then.) This must have been in the late 1970s.
