I can't tell exactly what Smokey is working on here. It looks like some form of whip. Whatever it is, Smokey had serious design and production skills with bullhooks, whips, and all tools of the trade. He visited us on James Bros., in '68, in Eugene, Oregon, and had a cafeteria-size table full of beautifully realized examples of his art. As a struggling young lion guy, I didn't have the means to buy anything he had, and alas, still regret what I missed. The guy @ R seems keen on learning what Smokey is doing.
