Harriett Beatty so beleaguered her husband to enter the cage, that he finally caved in. He teamed with Eddie Allen to mount Simba lion and Primba tigress on the original Anna May. This act has been covered here previously. It premiered in 1936, and became a sensation during its run. This shot gives us a reality of circus equipment we will not see again--a big cage 12 feet tall, forty feet in diameter, fully guyed out, with a well-made net and a Safety Cage--but this was when a steel arena was respected for its purpose and when circus was circus.
