It was a swivel on a Roman ring that failed, and caused the fatal fall of Leitzel, in 1931. She was playing the Music Hall in Copenhagen, and the accident sent chills through the hearts of showfolks, as it happened on a Friday the 13th.
The Flying Codonas were playing the Wintergarten in Berlin when Alfredo was told of Leitzel's fall, in Copenhagen. Upon being reassured, mostly by her, that she would survive, he flew back to resume his booking. He was met at the airport with the news Leitzel had died. He brought her ashes back to New York, carrying the urn in his arms for the entire voyage aboard the Mauritania.
