How are 13 mixed lions and tigers "a few"? Great-looking prime-year stock, and the outside guys in Jungle Zoo uniforms. Beatty had superb photos of these Ft. Lauderdale years, which ran from 1939's December 2nd opening to the bitter closing by a contested city council revision of the zoning ordinance in 1945. Once voted out, the Beattys left heartbroken, but scarcely defeated--in 1945, he took out the largest truck show to date, and in '46 saw his dream become a rail show. Later photos show that this arena had been left there, as the property became overgrown with weeds.
