When Warren Buffet bought McLane, I asked one of the drivers delivering to the Walmart Neighborhood Market I worked at if they had a stock buying program. He just laughed. The stock back then was very expensive, just like it is today. I have BNSF stock, but I am in a different category where my shares in Berkshire Hathaway have less value.
Tuesday, July 12th, 2011 - - - the RBBB Red Unit train approaches Tunnel 2 in the Tehachapi Mountains as the show moved from Fresno to San Diego (arrival in San Diego will be in the wee hours of the morning the next day). The train has three BNSF ES44DCs (7315, 7646 and 7216) on the point, and is made up of 59 cars (34 coaches, 18 flats, 4 stock cars, 2 container cars, and 1 bi-level auto rack) - 4290 tons and 5235 feet in length (not counting the diesels) - nearly a mile long!
A number of circus train clips, like this one of the big circle at Tehachapi, can be found on YouTube. The Tehachapi Range is just to the West of my backyard, and the sunsets that settle over these crests are beyond description.

In the early 60s "The Greatest Show On Earth"
traveled on a mere 17 car train (least ever)
