1950's Kelly-Miller #4

Me and "Hattie", I can't remember what brought this picture about.
My Father always instructed me to work out front where the money was.

I loved Hattie. She was the lead elephant in a group of three which I rode in Rex's elephant act on Circus Vargas. Once in awhile she would run down the track if the horse got too close to her. I just styled along watching for guide wires. One time she went out the front door and I had to ride close to her head. She was the first elephant I did three up and over with without a practice outsider the ring. Eva said just put you hands on her elbows and come out the back during the headstand. My hands got enclosed in her armpits and I could not get them out. I started to get near panic state until she got into her headstand and my hands were released. I have laughed at myself about that ever since.
