I found it entirely engaging that Victor entered the ring in an elegant formal tux, flipped his tails like Liberace, and sat down on the ring curb for the rest of the act. He got endless mileage out of what was basically an act of dogs all repeating hind-leg hops. But they were superbly dressed, and each dog drew its own response in themed wardrobe and music. His Batman and Old Glory blow-offs--as ERIC notes--tore the house down. Victor took so simple an act and showcased it in the top bookings of his day.

I remember watching this act with Bobby Gibbs as Johnny Herriott "explained" how the act was presented. A group of three or four dogs would come out individually, each dog working a little faster than the last. Not time to applaud for each dog, by the time the last dog of the group hopped out quickly in a clever costume the audience couldn't hold back any longer and would explode in applause. Victor would stand, acknowledge the audience and send that group home and repeat the sequence with other themes. When the "Uncle Sam" dog hopped out for the finale you knew you witnessed a classic.
