Jenda once told me he picked "Bertha" up for Bill Griffith's Adams Bros. Circus in 1958 from a road side park in the Carolinas.
On the trip back the driver rolled the truck over during freezing weather and he had to lead her to the nearest garage where they let him hold her inside until another truck arrived.. |

Girl next to elephant is Patti Couls.
The roadside park was Tote-Em-In Zoo owned by Geoege Tregembo, who operated as an agent for Fred Zeehandelaar. Bertha was one of several recent imports being housed at the Carolina attraction.
