I first met Jenda in 1957 while he was with Howarsd Suesz's Hagen Bros. Circus working old Russell Bros. "Elsie". He had just come up from Australia as had his father Tony Smaha.

While Franz Cseisler had a winter
quarters at 63rd Avenue East in
rural Manatee Jenda kept his last
elephant in 1 corner of the barn
Those 3 different notes had
nothing in common by the way
Technically, Suesz's Hagan Bros. was my first circus to get paid on. I helped Enoch Brafford set up that rat's-ass push-pole top Howard had. We had beanie-weenies for lunch, and upon load-out, I lined up and Brafford paid me 4 quarters. This also marked the end of my labors as a canvasman.
