Most TV studio flooring was very

heavyweight battleship linoleum

The central column of the dolly

was either pheumatic or cable

counterbalanced so the cameras

would easily be raised & lowered

with the slightest touch & the

double bearing wheels had these

fenders with very slight ground

clearance to deflect cables

This TK40 or 41 was 1 of the earliest

color TV cameras by RCA but used by

all of the networks for many years

Similar to the smaller black & white

cameras it had a rotating lens turret

operated by a locking handle in back

Between shooting sequences the turret

would be left between lenses so not

to let images "burn in" on the very

sensitive image orthicon tubes

These cameras were heavy & awkward

for 2 people to mount on the dolly

Nowadays you can clip 1 to a lapel

Cary Grant was once asked why indeed he had retired from films. He said, "I tired of
stepping over clumps of cables."
