I remember load-out in Philly one year (1981-ish)...it was a swamp! It got to the point where even your boots got stuck, so I took them off and loaded out barefoot!! :-) Cindy Potter
CINDY's right. We showed catty-cornered from RFK Stadium on a lot of black earth. We suffered a deluge that turned a nice lot to mud a yardstick deep. The elephants couldn't budge a single wagon. Johnny Pugh had a local with a Caterpillar come pull us off. I met the guy--he charged $120 per hour, with a 2-hour minimum. He was there past dawn the next day. Dennis Walker's Big Top guys had it the worst. As some of us know, canvas triples in weight when wet. They had to fold it out of that mud for pick-up by the spool truck, and the Caterpillar man almost couldn't bring it out. Hell of a night.
