Esther Williams' autobio, MILLION DOLLAR MERMAID, lost credibility as a tell-all, when she claimed leading man Jeff Chandler was a confirmed cross-dresser. His survivors hit back with denials supported by casts and crews who knew Chandler on and off-screen. Esther had to recant and apologize for this salacious lie included to help sell her book.
