Homer Walton

Noted Circus Elephant Historian who collected hairs from elephant's tails, I remember my father would pluck one from every new elephant he came across and mail it to him.

The hair collector was Charles E Davis, died about 1971, had been collecting hairs for many years. Wonder what became to his unusual collection?

I don't know either. I have some paper stuff from the Charles E. Davis collection with his stamp all over the place saying elephant historian. As to his elephant stuff, I haven't found a soul that knows a thing. ( or will say )

I still have tiger whiskers given me by Mabel Stark. Most came from her lead tigress, Goldie. These are not plucked, but drop out naturally, and I would find them on the cage floors I cleaned for Mabel. I'd offer them to her, and she handed them back to me for good luck. In more sinister applications, in Asia, tiger whiskers are ground up and added to a victim's food. The result is similar to that of ground glass, providing an irreversible, slow, and agonizing death.
