If I'm not mistaken, Beers-Barnes was originally a rep show- can anyone verify that?
BUCKLES: I never heard Billy Richards, of Richards & Horne fame, called anything but Billy. But considering this elephant lease--is Billy and W.C. one and the same?
At great old family tent show. Charlie Beers and Rodger Barnes. Thank you for sharing these photos. The photo in Whitney Point is probably from Clayton Hawkes who lived in nearby Castle Creek, NY and in 1936 toured his own Martin Bros. Circus.
W C Richards was Wesley Cisco Richards, of the Richards family that operated under various titles and that sold "Richards Bros Circus" to the Mills brothers.
The three brothers were Henry B "Boss", W C and Franco D, all sons of Andrew Jackson
"Red" Richards.
I believe Franco Richards, Jr was the last of his family to own a circus- Ring Bros also called Trapeze Bros one year.
Ole, yes Beers-Barnes was a rep show...we have a nice size file on them here at the Theatre Museum.
Rep Show is a new term for me. Can someone explain it more?
