I'd bet it's Clyde Jr
Why would you bet that? Clyde Jr never expressed any interest in working cats, nor did his parents favor the idea. In fact Jane outright opposed it
I cannot verify who the tyke is, but these young lions are more than of sufficient age to kill this kid. He is too close to the animals for anyone to effect a rescue in a sudden attack--and yes, lions this age do attack. It was criminally foolhardy to put this boy in with them, no matter who was in there for back-up.
When Clyde,Jr. and his mother joined out that summer of '64, he sat on the back of 76 Wagon and watched his father work once. The rest of the time, he was playing baseball in the backyard with Carlos and Maria Clarke and Herbie Weber, Jr., or bouncing with them on the Gaona's trampoline. He never gave any further study to his father's act. For his adult career, as many know, he became a highly respected designer and shaper of surfboards for his own company, Beatty Products.
Possibly a young Manny King ?
No, this is not Manuel King. He was older than this boy, about 8 or 9 when breaking in under Chubby Guilfoyle. Manuel was a stouter-framed youngster, given more to the roly-poly. King lived a very long life. Does anyone have further details about him?
