"Dyna" #1 (From Buckles)

I remember this well from the days we played Fairs.
These Thrill Shows were booked as tho someone had thrown darts at a map of the U.S.
I never saw one show a spot more than one day.
With the Barnes-Carruthers Revues we usually played a week and would sometimes awaken to find one had pulled into the infield overnight then vanish right after the show. Easy Up! Easy Down!
The Aut Swenson show often included Louie McNeece's elephant "Dyna".

I recall hearing that expression

"darts at a map" used to suggest

circus routing with silly jumps

(I don't mean silly as in funny)

Hubert Castle's route looked like that, except the Shriners who ruled him were blindfolded when throwing the darts. In Montana, we jumped back and forth the length of the state for some 30 days, all one-night stands. Castle raved that if the Shriners didn't get their dates lined out so they didn't kill his people and equipment, he'd blow Montana. No such effort was ever made.

I did one season for Aut Swenson in 1963. We had taken on his motorcycle on a wire from Patsy and Johnny Jorden. And he wanted some chariot racing horses but i would only do ponies had the breakaway and 3 teams also did a rolling globe act. He supplied me a 30 stock trailer and a new Ford cab over plus a one ton truck for the motor cycle. We did 200 to 500 over nighter's which for the cars was no problem and other semi was the ramp truck. When i would get in after striking the rigging and loading the ponies it was a long haul and had to get in and unload and feed and set up the rigging for the cycle. I never got more than 3-4 hrs sleep a night. Lots of bennies !!
