50's RBBB #5



With the sudden transition of being moved indoors it took several years for the show to get a solid route and the arenas lined up in order.
Here we see the elephants on a layoff at the Fairgrounds in  Baraboo.

That is Diamond, the only African. He had arrived on RBBB in mid-1955 and was sent to Knoxville zoo in 1963. There he would become the sire of the first viable African calves ever born in USA.

This photo was taken at Baraboo during the summer layoff in 1962.
