The following images are frame enlargements from
THE RIDING HANNEFORDS, a Technicolor short subject
released by Warner Bros. in 1946. (These
images were scanned from an old 16mm black & white print that I acquired
many years ago from a film rental library that was going out of business.) The Internet Movie Data Base
(IMDb) cast listing for this film only lists Poodles and Gracie
Hanneford by name. Some of you might be
able to identify some of the other performers who appear in these images. As far
as I know, this particular film is not currently available on
video. It might eventually
turn up as one of the Warner Night at the Movies extras that are
bundled along with Warner Bros. feature films when they are released on
DVD.

We can hope it will. In the meantime, look for the Hannefords co-starring with Shirley Temple, in OUR LITTLE DARLING (1935). As we know, circus acts in movies are generally mere glimpses of what the act does, interrupted by close-up reaction shots of the stars. But this time, someone kept good frames of the Hannefords, and Poodles was well featured.
