The following images of Jules Jacot
presenting the St. Louis Zoo’s lion act are 16mm frame enlargements from
CARNIVAL AT THE ZOO, a Castle Films short subject
that was released to the home movie market in 1952. (The lion act footage, which
might have been filmed earlier than 1952, goes by so quickly that it is best
studied as a series of frame enlargements.)
The sequence opens with Jules raising up the chute door and letting the
lions into the performance arena.
