Wasn't her name Rose Gould?
I've heard that too.
Many showfolks changed names to
minimize certain ethnicities & in
some cases changed nationalities
The very 1st image today above
shows the name "Gould"
My late friend, the historian and archivist Leonard V. Farley, would fly into raptures describing the Rose Gold act. He never spelled it, so if Gould is on her early publicity, she was made of gold to her audiences.
"A Rose by any other name. . . "
Rose Gould was born in Austria. The stage name Rose Gold may have been suggested as more marketable when she came to the US just after WW II. Newspaper clippings in her scrapbook use the name Rose Gold and the Rose Gold Trio much more than Rose Gould. There are even clippings in Spanish using the name Rosa Gold.
