I found these the other day after Bob Cline & myself were having a
discussion about what happened to the old bannerline wagons that Cole Bros last
used in 1950. Anyway, While you were on the subject of circuses on carnivals I
though I`d send these to you, Barnes Bros Circus on World of Mirth Shows in
1953. The show front is the old Cole Bros bannerline wagons. Can you identify
the elephant and wasn`t this circus produced by Arthur Wirths??

Arthur Wirtz controlled the surplus Cole Show animals and equipment using the Barnes title at the Chicago Stadium winter engagement and other dates such as the ones in your pictures.
They worked out of the Peru quarters that later became Paul Kelly's place.
In fact the first time I met John Herriott was when we stopped by that facility to water and rest our elephants.
John's father Milt was was in charge of it in those days.
Hal:
When the Cole show was put together, their elephants came mainly from two sources: the Ranch show and the Hall farm. Of those at the Hall farm, some had been with Buchanan's Robbins Bros and some had been used by Hall in contract acts playing vaude, fairs etc. Over the years some of them either died or were otherwise disposed of.
By 1953 the elephants remaining in the herd which came to Wirtz were:
Ranch: Louie, Big Babe, Carrie and Jean
Robbins: Little Babe and Big Jennie
Hall: Tessie, Nellie, Wilma and Little Jennie
If there are mistakes here, feel free to correct.
Thanks for the info Buckles & Dave. I remember around 1955 seeing either Barnes Bros or Terrell Jacobs Circus on The World of Mirth Shows or it may have been Strates. I was only 7 years or so old and my dad took me to every circus & carnival that came within a 100 miles of us so I sometimes get them mixed up.
