If the photographer had waited one second, we would see Ace rising on his hind
legs, as I elevated the chunk of meat. He was a well animal. Threats by the
Ringling show, or the Polish Director, as was called the man in charge of keeping
the Communist-dominated performers corralled, may or may not have been made
against the lion, but that's the angle that generated headlines. Benny Bennett
pronounced him perfectly fine the day we got him. We shifted him into the Big Stage
Arena, shown here, and he at once enjoyed investigating his new surroundings.
