Not sure if this question went through before I crashed. How much food (hay and such) was required for these large herds back in the day? How was this food procured--locally or was it hauled along on the train? I would think that as the shows got further out into the smaller towns, the food requirement for feeding the animals and the show folks would put a real dent in the standing supplies of a small town, especially 80 or 100 years ago.
