Jump to 9:00 into the program to catch Miss Stark's segment.
OK, MIKE--You've done it now. You just became the go-to guy for all the stuff I can't find. I scrolled both YouTube and WML?'s site, till I was cross-eyed. I found her listing, but could not get her episode to screen. Your skills have resurrected another gem about Mabel that I believed lost to history. Thanks, Mike.
Last night, I found Mabel on WHAT'S MY LINE? Thanks again, MIKE. You salvaged a treasure.
There was something very telling about her signing in, which underscored the hard costs of her career. She picked up the chalk, and had some difficulty trying to write out her name. Her right hand and arm had been severely mangled on three occasions. First, in the extensive attack by the 2 tigers Zoo and Sheik, in Bangor, Maine, in 1928. Again, by Nellie tigress in Phoenix, in 1935. And a 3rd time when Pasha tigress bit and tore that arm at the Compound, in 1950. This is why she refused autographs. She told me, "They ask me to sign something, and I make one letter and this hand goes haywire, and they say, 'Oh, look, the poor old thing can't even write her name. They ought to let her go'". Signing on for this appearance demonstrated her determination to face any impediment, and go on.
